A backflow prevention device is a device that allows water to flow in one direction but not the other. This keeps the water flowing through your irrigation lines from flowing backward into the into your home water supply and contaminating your drinking water.

How do I know if I have a backflow prevention device?

All residential and commercial irrigation systems connected to city water require a backflow prevention device. It is usually located on or near the side of your house.

How often does my device need tested?

For irrigation, backflow prevention devices are required by the state of Indiana to be tested on an annual basis. The test must be performed by a state-certified backflow inspector. Ballard Irrigation has had state-certified backflow inspectors for over 20 years.
